Productized Consulting Without the Cookie Cutter
Repeatable outcomes, not templated delivery. A tier logic for productized consulting that still fits the client’s reality.
Repeatability isn’t sameness. The point of productized consulting is reliable outcomes—not identical experiences. Here’s how I design offers that scale while fitting real contexts.
Start with decision complexity
Price tiers shouldn’t ladder features—they should ladder risk profiles. Map tiers to the choices your buyer must get approved: speed, scope certainty, stakeholder load, and depth of change.
The tier logic I use
Core: fastest path to the pivotal outcome with tight boundaries
Plus: same outcome with added enablement for stakeholder complexity
Custom: when change touches multiple systems and needs co‑design
Proof inside each tier
Each tier gets its own receipts: relevant case excerpt, benchmark, or pilot metric. Proof isn’t generic; it’s tied to the tier’s risk.
Delivery rails that keep it human
Standardize the spine (milestones, reviews, artifacts). Personalize the muscle (examples, language, stakeholder choreography). Clients feel seen because the story fits—even when the system repeats.
Pricing that protects margin
Anchor price to risk removed and time‑to‑value, not hours. Publish boundary lines to prevent scope creep. Offer add‑ons only where they accelerate outcomes.
What changes when you productize this way
Sales shifts from persuasion to sorting. Delivery quality stabilizes. Premium pricing stops sounding ambitious and starts sounding inevitable.
